Education Ministry Urges States to Adopt UPI for School Fees

Education Ministry Pushes Digital Payments in Schools

The Ministry of Education has urged all states and Union Territories to adopt digital payment methods like UPI, mobile payments, and net banking for school fees and other transactions.

This initiative, announced on October 11, 2025, aims to promote “Ease of Living and Schooling” and bring greater transparency to financial operations in schools.

Key Takeaways

  • States, UTs, and autonomous bodies like CBSE and NCERT are encouraged to implement digital fee collection.
  • The move aims to enhance convenience, transparency, and financial literacy.
  • It aligns with the government’s broader Digital Transformation goals.

Official Communication

The Department of School Education and Literacy has written to all States, UTs, and affiliated autonomous bodies, asking them to explore mechanisms for collecting admission and examination fees through secure digital modes.

The Ministry highlighted the “multiple advantages” of moving from cash to digital transactions, citing improved convenience and transparency.

“This would also enable all stakeholders to become more financially literate, thereby opening up a larger world of digital transactions.”

The Centre stated that this shift is an “important stride in aligning educational administration with the Government’s broader goal of Digital Transformation.”
