Chinese giant ByteDance, the creator of TikTok, has released its latest AI video generation model, Seedance 2.0 in over 100 countries despite rumours suggesting that the company had halted a global launch. However, Seedance 2.0 is not available in the US.
BytePlus, the company’s cloud unit, wrote on X, “Dreamina Seedance 2.0 is now live via BytePlus ModelArk API.” Seedance 2.0 was already available in China.

Do note that ByteDance faced legal notices from Hollywood studios, including Disney and Paramount after users in China created clips from Hollywood films with the model.
What is Seedance 2.0?
Seedance 2.0 is ByteDance’s latest model for video generation. After users in China created clips depicting Hollywood scenes from Marvel and Star Wars franchises, many feared that this could be the end of Hollywood.
Following the model’s release in China in February this year, Disney and Paramount accused ByteDance of violating their IP rights. Disney accused the company of using its characters to train SeeDance 2.0 and distributing copyrighted materials as public-domain art.
Paramount Skydance, on the other hand, described ByteDance’s actions as “blatant infringement” of its intellectual property.
Who can use Seedance 2.0?
Seedance 2.0 model is accessible through the BytePlus ModelArk API for entreprise customers. The service is available in over 100 countries, including India, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
The release comes at a time when many users may be looking for alternative video generation tools after OpenAI shut down Sora, the app and the API for developers. This could potentially provide an opportunity for developers to use Seedance 2.0 as a replacement.
To avoid potential legal issues, BytePlus has imposed restrictions preventing the use of realistic human faces in video prompts. The company has not hinted at any plans of bringing the model to the US, at least for now.
