UIDAI Launches Official Aadhaar App for Android and iOS

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has officially launched its Aadhaar mobile application, bringing digital identity management to approximately 140 crore citizens. The app enables users to carry digital Aadhaar cards securely on their smartphones with enhanced privacy controls.

Key Advantages Over Previous Solutions

Unlike the older M-Aadhaar application, this new official app allows users to manage up to five family members’ Aadhaar profiles when linked to the same mobile number. It also eliminates the need for physical visits to Aadhaar Seva Kendras for updating key details like name, address, and mobile number.

Key Features of the Aadhaar App

  • Multi-Profile Management: Store and manage Aadhaar cards for up to five family members in one application
  • Biometric Security Lock: Activate biometric authentication to lock your Aadhaar data, ensuring only you can access or share information
  • Selective Data Sharing: Control privacy by choosing what information to reveal – share only name and photo while hiding address or date of birth
  • QR Code Verification: Generate and scan Aadhaar QR codes for paperless verification at banks and government offices
  • Offline Access: View saved Aadhaar details without internet connection after initial setup
  • Usage History Monitoring: Track when, where, and how your Aadhaar has been used through the activity log

How to Set Up the Aadhaar App

  1. Download the official “Aadhaar” app from Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS)
  2. Open the app, select your preferred language, and enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number
  3. Complete verification through OTP sent to your registered mobile number
  4. Perform mandatory face scan authentication to confirm your identity
  5. Create a six-digit security PIN to lock and protect your profile

The application represents a significant step forward in and secure identity management for Indian citizens.
