The Devil Wears Prada 2 first reviews: Meryl Streep-Anne Hathaway bring back sass

The Devil Wears Prada 2 has finally made its grand debut, delivering a performance that has left fans anything but disappointed. The film, arriving 20 years after the original, features the return of iconic cast members Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt, raising the stakes for its premiere.

Reactions from the media and pop culture circles seem overwhelmingly positive. Daniel Baptista, the host of The Movie Podcast, described the sequel as “fun and fierce,” praising Hathaway and Streep for seamlessly slipping back into their roles. “It feels familiar in the best way, timely in the right ways, and is well worth the wait,” he added.

Jazz Tangcay of Variety lauded the film as a “phenomenal” sequel that surpassed expectations. Highlighting Aline Brosh McKenna’s sharp and witty screenplay, Tangcay noted that the film’s dazzling costumes and killer soundtrack, featuring contributions from Lady Gaga, were standout elements. “We’ll be quoting this for years to come,” she enthused.

Alex Weprin of The Hollywood Reporter commented on the film’s portrayal of the media, calling it “a biting media parody wrapped up in high fashion.” The sequel takes a time leap following the events of the first film, focusing on Andy’s return to the Runway office to address a “scandal.”

The sequel features Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) navigating the decline of print media. She is forced to seek advertising revenue from her former assistant, Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), now a high-powered luxury executive. Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) returns as a features editor amidst a new Runway scandal.

The world premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2 in New York City was a star-studded affair on Monday evening, with the ensemble cast reuniting alongside director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna. The event saw attendance from global fashion icon Lady Gaga and other notable figures from the fashion and music industries, including Marc Jacobs, Heidi Klum, and Naomi Campbell.

India Today is yet to watch and review the film.
