Kerala’s Education Minister V Sivankutty has confirmed that the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) results will be declared in the third week of May 2026, while the Plus Two (Class 12) results are scheduled for May 25.
The announcement was made during a press briefing on Thursday, where the minister also addressed concerns regarding students affected by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
In light of the disruption of board examinations in the Gulf region, the state government has introduced a special evaluation framework.
A total of 633 SSLC students who could not appear for their exams will now be assessed based on their performance in model or term examinations, along with a provision for grace marks.
Similarly, for 592 higher secondary students, first-year marks will be considered as the basis for evaluation.
These will be combined with Continuous Evaluation (CE) scores and practical marks from the second year to determine final results.
The relief measures also extend to Kerala students who were temporarily in the Gulf during the exams and were unable to return due to the crisis. However, their eligibility will be verified through documents such as hall tickets, visas, and passports, with school principals responsible for certifying missed examinations.
Students who are not satisfied with the assessed results will have the opportunity to appear for improvement exams at a later stage.
PUSH FOR TRANSPARENCY IN CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT
Addressing ongoing concerns around the implementation of continuous assessment in schools, the minister acknowledged complaints about inconsistent evaluation practices.
To improve accountability, schools will now be required to publicly display assessment scores on notice boards.
Additionally, all grievances related to internal assessment will be reviewed by designated school-level monitoring committees to ensure fair evaluation standards are maintained.
SUPPORT PROGRAMME FOR LOW-SCORING STUDENTS
In another key initiative, the state has introduced a targeted academic support programme for students in Classes 5 to 9 studying in government schools. This programme is aimed at students who scored below 30 per cent in written examinations.
Scheduled to run from April 20 to April 27, 2026, the initiative will offer focused academic assistance, followed by special exams.
Based on these results, promotion lists will be finalised, giving students an additional opportunity to progress academically.
Overall, the Kerala government’s measures aim to ensure that no student is disadvantaged due to circumstances beyond their control, while also strengthening assessment practices within the education system.
