Vinod Kambli is fine: Wife addresses health speculation

Former Vinod Kambli cricketer’s wife has addressed the growing speculation around his health, dismissing reports that suggested the former India batter was dealing with serious medical concerns.

It was reported earlier in the Indian media that Kambli was battling multiple health issues, including memory-related problems and the risk of further complications. Concerns were also raised about a blood clot in his brain, which could potentially lead to a stroke, while his overall condition was described as delicate despite some physical improvement.

However, Kambli’s wife Andrea Hewitt allayed the rumours surrounding his health.

“By God’s grace, Vinod is fine. I don’t know who is spreading false information about his health,” she told journalist Vickey Lalwani.

While Kambli’s wife has reassured the fans about the former cricketer’s health, the ex-batter’s close friend and former first-class umpire Marcus Couto told the reporters that the former cricketer remains at risk of a brain stroke, which had raised concerns about his condition.

Reports had further suggested that a support system had been put in place by close friends, with members of the cricketing fraternity stepping in to assist him financially and emotionally. A WhatsApp group, led by Marcus Couto, had reportedly brought together well-wishers to contribute towards his care, with figures like Sachin Tendulkar also said to be involved.

There were also claims that Kambli had struggled with lifestyle-related issues, even as he showed signs of recovery, including improved mobility and a return to light professional activity.

Vinod Kambli was seen in the public eye in March this year when he went to the Annsh Cricket Academy. The Mumbai legend looked weak and frail and needed a person’s support to navigate.

At the event, Vinod Kambli met some children and his old friends, and batted a few balls in the nets. While Kambli was batting, two people stood beside him in case the former player lost his motor functions.

Once regarded as one of India’s brightest batting talents, Kambli has struggled with his health in recent years. Back in 2024, Kambli had revealed that he had a severe case of a urinary infection that resulted in him collapsing at his home. Kambli had said that he was ready to go to rehab to improve his health.
