WhatsApp may soon introduce business chat filtering to reduce spam

Notifications can be useful for staying updated, but sometimes they can become frustrating. WhatsApp, one of the most widely used communication platforms, is now reportedly working on a new feature aimed at helping Android users better organise their chats and reduce spam.

According to WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned firm is developing a functionality that will automatically arrange business chats into a separate section. This update is designed to move conversations with business accounts out of the main inbox after a certain period, thereby reducing clutter and spam.

The feature is currently under development and is not yet available for beta testing. It is expected to be rolled out in a future update. Once implemented, this feature likely to allow users to manage their business conversations more efficiently by automatically filtering all communications with business accounts into a dedicated list. This update can help users focus more on personal conversations without distractions from business-related messages. It is worth noting that this feature will specifically manage business chats that send offers and updates. In other words, only those accounts that rely on cloud-based automation for messaging are expected to be affected by this change.

The report also shares a screenshot of the upcoming business chat filtering feature, offering a glimpse of how it may function. It indicates that business messages could be automatically shifted to a separate section 24 hours after being received.

This purported feature may help individuals who frequently receive marketing messages and get irritated with every notification.

WhatsApp has introduced several updates recently, including a username feature that will allow users to connect without sharing their phone numbers. Instead, they can simply share their usernames, adding an extra layer of privacy. According to WABetaInfo, the messaging platform is likely testing and refining this feature before rolling it out more widely. The messaging platform has reportedly been also spotted testing a built-in noise cancellation feature for voice and video calls. The system works by detecting surrounding sounds and intelligently filtering out unwanted noise, such as traffic, wind, or background chatter. In simple terms, it focuses on your voice while suppressing everything else—ensuring that the person on the other end hears you clearly, even in noisy environments.
