GATE 2026 answer key released: What’s the next step?

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has released the answer keys and response sheets for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026.

Candidates who appeared for the exam can access the documents on the official website, gate2026.iitg.ac.in, by logging in with their application number, registered email ID, and password.

EXAMS HELD ACROSS FOUR DAYS IN CBT MODE

GATE 2026 was conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode on February 7, 8, 14, and 15 for 30 subject papers.

The question papers included a mix of multiple choice questions (MCQs), multiple select questions (MSQs), and numerical answer type (NAT) questions, in line with the exam’s standard pattern.

ANSWER KEY CHALLENGE FACILITY ACTIVATED

Along with the provisional keys, the organising institute has opened the answer key challenge link on the candidate portal. Aspirants who find discrepancies in any answer can raise objections within the prescribed timeline by submitting supporting justification.

The final answer key will be released after all valid challenges are examined by the authorities.

MARKING SCHEME AND SCORE ESTIMATION

Using the provisional answer key and their recorded responses, candidates can calculate an estimated score ahead of the results.

For most engineering papers such as AE, CE, CS, EC, EE, ME and others that include Engineering Mathematics, the paper carries 100 marks:

  • General Aptitude: 15 marks
  • Subject-specific section: 85 marks
  • Papers like GG, AR, and GE follow a two-part format with a compulsory section and an optional section. In all cases, General Aptitude contributes 15 marks.

GATE 2026 RESULT DATE AND NEXT STEPS

The GATE 2026 result will be compiled based on the final answer key and is scheduled to be announced on March 19.

The score will be used for admission to postgraduate programmes such as MTech and PhD at IITs, NITs, and other centrally funded technical institutions.

GATE scores are also widely accepted for recruitment by public sector undertakings (PSUs) across the country.
