MS Dhoni fined for overspeeding, traffic violation in Ranchi

Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been fined Rs 1000 for overspeeding in Ranchi after his vehicle was caught violating traffic norms. An e-challan was issued under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act after the city’s traffic monitoring system recorded the speed violation near his residence.

The automated surveillance system detected the vehicle exceeding the permitted speed limit, following which the digital challan was generated as part of Ranchi’s traffic enforcement process.

While the offence itself is minor, developments involving the former India skipper rarely go unnoticed, quickly drawing attention among fans and on social media.

This comes a few days after Dhoni faced another legal issue when the Jharkhand State Housing Board issued him a notice over the alleged misuse of a residential plot in Ranchi. Authorities have raised concerns that the property, which was allotted strictly for residential purposes, may have been used for commercial activity.

Officials said the plot is located on Harmu Road in Ranchi, where Dhoni had earlier lived before shifting to his current residence on Ring Road.

DHONI GEARS UP FOR IPL 2026

With IPL 2026 approaching, Dhoni has already returned to the training grind with Chennai Super Kings, easing into net sessions as the franchise prepares for the new season.

The five-time champions are looking to bounce back after a difficult 2025 campaign that saw them finish at the bottom of the table with 10 defeats in 14 matches.

Dhoni was retained under the uncapped player rule for Rs 4 crore, a structure that continues into the 2026 season. While he no longer bats high up the order, his role at the back end of innings still carries weight.

Last season, Dhoni scored 196 runs across 14 matches at a strike rate of 135.17, mostly delivering quick cameos in the final overs.

Despite being 44-years-old, Dhoni’s tactical awareness and ability to control the dressing room remain central to the franchise’s identity as they aim for a fresh start in IPL 2026.
