UAE schools and colleges go online amid Iran-US-Israel crisis, missile alerts

The United Arab Emirates has announced that all schools, universities and higher education institutions across the country will shift to distance learning from Monday, March 2 to Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

As per leading media reports, the decision comes in response to rising regional tensions involving Iran, the United States and Israel. Recent days have seen missile exchanges, emergency alerts and heightened security measures across parts of the Gulf.

The UAE Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research confirmed that the temporary move is a precautionary step aimed at safeguarding students, teachers and administrative staff.

WHO IS AFFECTED

The directive applies nationwide and covers:

  • Public schools
  • Private schools, including international curricula
  • Universities and colleges
  • Teaching, administrative and support staff

Authorities have clarified that the measure is preventive in nature. The situation will continue to be monitored, and the period of online learning may be extended if required.

DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE PUT TO USE

The UAE’s education system is relying on digital platforms that were strengthened during the Covid-19 pandemic. Schools and universities are expected to conduct regular classes, assignments and academic activities through established online systems.

Officials have emphasised that the aim is to ensure continuity of learning while minimising potential risks linked to the evolving regional security environment.

Parents and students have been urged to stay updated through official government channels and avoid relying on unverified information circulating on social media.

REGIONAL RIPPLE EFFECT

The move reflects how geopolitical developments are having a direct impact on daily life across the Gulf. Reports of missile alerts, airspace disruptions and emergency notifications have raised concerns in several countries.

Leading media reports suggest that other Gulf nations, including Qatar and Bahrain, have also taken similar precautionary measures by activating remote learning or suspending in-person classes.

For now, classrooms across the UAE have temporarily moved online — a reminder of how global tensions can quickly reshape routines, even in the education sector.
