Nepal Airlines apologises after posting incorrect map of India

Nepal Airlines has apologised for displaying an incorrect map of India, acknowledging the error and expressing regret for any offence caused. The airline emphasised that it values its strong relationships with neighbouring countries and has initiated an internal review to ensure its materials meet the highest standards of accuracy. In a post on X, the airline said that the map shared on its social media platforms contained inaccuracies that do not reflect the official stance of Nepal or Nepal Airlines.

“We sincerely apologise for the error in the network map recently shared on our social media channels. The map contained significant cartographic inaccuracies regarding international boundaries that do not reflect the official stance of Nepal or Nepal Airlines,” the statement read.

It further added that the post had been removed and that steps were being taken to prevent such errors in the future.

“We have immediately removed the post and are conducting an internal review to ensure our materials meet the highest standards of accuracy,” it said.

“We deeply value our strong relationships with our neighbours and friends in the region and regret any offence the post has caused,” the airline added.

Public reacts

Despite the apology, the issue has sparked reactions on social media, with several users and public figures criticising the airline.

Bhojpuri actor Khesari Lal Yadav also reacted strongly, saying that simply deleting the post was not enough and demanded a clearer explanation from the airline.

“My dear Nepal Airlines, simply deleting the post and running away won’t suffice. You will have to answer for this. Either apologize or explain your intentions, why did you do this? Under what compulsion, after all, did such a peaceful and good neighbor begin committing such errors?” he said.

He further alleged that the issue was serious and could not be dismissed as a minor mistake.

“Can anyone explain what Nepal Airlines was thinking when it tampered with the map of India and specifically regarding Jammu and Kashmir? This is no trivial matter; it appears to be a deliberate act. This is what is called provocation,” he said.

Other users also expressed strong reactions online. One user pointed out India’s long-standing support to Nepal and questioned the airline’s actions.

“India has kept Nepal’s economy breathing for decades… open borders, jobs for lakhs of Nepalis, trade access via Indian ports, fuel pipelines, power projects, disaster relief, infrastructure, scholarships, even military cooperation. And this is how Nepal Airlines responds?,” a user wrote.

Another user urged the Government of India to take immediate cognisance of the issue and act swiftly, calling the incident extremely sensitive. Expressing strong concern, the user criticised the development, saying it was surprising that countries benefiting from India’s support were now taking such positions.

“This is an extremely sensitive incident. The Government of India should immediately take cognizance of this and take swift action on it, What a day has come today that Countries that live and eat by taking rations from India have also started showing eyes to India,” he said.
