The official teaser trailer for Verity offers a first look at Dakota Johnson, Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett in the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel. The upcoming psychological erotic thriller hints at a sinister mystery as Johnson uncovers Hathaway’s dark secrets.
In Verity, Hathaway delivers a warning: “Even with my continuous warning, you’re going to continue to ingest my words. But know one thing: There is no light where we’re going. Darkness ahead.”
Verity follows Lowen Ashleigh, played by Johnson, who is hired by Jeremy Crawford, played by Hartnett, to ghostwrite novels for his bestselling author wife, Verity, played by Hathaway, after she is left unable to finish them following an accident. While staying at the Crawfords’ home to work on the books, Lowen begins to realise that not everything is as it seems and uncovers disturbing truths about Verity.
Across the trailer, Johnson is shown entering into a romantic relationship with Hartnett, even as the bedridden Verity remains close by. In one moment, a kiss on the couch between Johnson and Hartnett turns unsettling when the former recoils from a bite and sees Hathaway looking back at her with a smirk as the two pull away.
The film is directed by Michael Showalter, who previously worked with Hathaway on the romantic comedy, The Idea of You. The film also featured actors Nicholas Galitzine, Ella Rubin, Annie Mumolo, Reid Scott and others in crucial roles.
The screenplay of Verity has been written by Nick Antosca and the film is co-produced by Hathaway, alongside Antosca, Gabi Lane, Alex Hedlund, Showalter, Jordana Mollick, Hoover and Stacey Sher.
Hathaway is currently busy with the promotion of her new film, The Devil Wears Parada 2 (2026), featuring Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt.
Verity is set for a theatrical release on October 2, 2026.
