$11 Billion AI Data Center Investment in Andhra Pradesh by Reliance JV

Reliance-Led JV to Invest $11 Billion in Andhra Pradesh AI Hub

A joint venture involving Reliance Industries will invest $11 billion to establish a massive artificial intelligence data center in Andhra Pradesh, marking one of India’s largest AI infrastructure investments.

Key Details

  • Investment: $11 billion over five years
  • Location: Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh
  • Capacity: One-gigawatt AI data center
  • Partners: Reliance Industries, Brookefield (Canada), Digital Realty (US)

The Digital Connexion joint venture brings together Reliance’s domestic strength with international expertise from Canadian multinational Brookefield and US real estate investment firm Digital Realty.

Government Support

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu welcomed the investment, stating it will drive “jobs, innovation and global tech investment” in the state.

“This landmark project underscores Andhra Pradesh’s emergence as a leading destination for advanced digital infrastructure and next-generation computing capabilities,” the state government said in an official statement.

Growing AI Ecosystem

This massive investment comes just weeks after Google announced a $15 billion data center and AI base in the same city, marking its largest facility outside the United States.

The timing aligns with India’s surging demand for AI solutions, with the country projected to surpass 900 million internet users by year-end. Data centers represent a rapidly expanding global sector, driven by increasing digital data storage needs and energy-intensive AI training requirements.

International AI Expansion

Several leading US AI companies have recently announced India expansion plans:

  • Anthropic: Plans to open an Indian office next year, with CEO Dario Amodei meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi
  • OpenAI: Will establish an Indian office this year, with ChatGPT usage growing fourfold in the past year
  • Perplexity: Partnered with Airtel in July, offering 360 million customers free Pro subscriptions

These developments position Andhra Pradesh as a key hub in India’s rapidly evolving AI infrastructure landscape.
