Maharashtra Partners With Starlink For Satellite Internet Services

Maharashtra Becomes First Indian State to Partner With Elon Musk’s Starlink

The Maharashtra government has signed a landmark partnership with Elon Musk’s Starlink to deploy satellite-based internet services, making it the first Indian state to formally collaborate with the US satellite communications company.

Key Details of the Partnership

The government signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Starlink Satellite Communications Pvt Ltd to provide satellite internet services for:

  • Government institutions
  • Rural communities
  • Critical public infrastructure
  • Remote and underserved regions including Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Washim and Dharashiv

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that this collaboration marks Maharashtra as the pioneering state to work with Starlink for satellite-based connectivity solutions.

Strategic Importance

“It is our honour that the company is arriving in India and partnering with Maharashtra,” Fadnavis stated in an X post.

The partnership supports Maharashtra’s flagship Digital Maharashtra mission and integrates with multiple state initiatives including:

  • Electric vehicle programs
  • Coastal development projects
  • Disaster resilience programs

Fadnavis emphasized that with this decision, Maharashtra will lead India in satellite-enabled digital infrastructure development.

“This is a giant leap towards future-ready Maharashtra and sets the benchmark for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India mission at the grassroots,” he said.

Starlink, which operates the world’s largest constellation of communication satellites, brings significant technological capabilities to this partnership that could transform connectivity in Maharashtra’s most challenging terrains.
