Kyle Dubas comments on Evgeni Malkin future as Pittsburgh Penguins approach crucial NHL trade deadline decisions

The future of longtime Penguins star Evgeni Malkin is a contract that is attracting headlines as the Pittsburgh Penguins head into major decisions before the NHL trade deadline. The old center has already shown signs of his desire to renew his career in Pittsburgh, and the next few months were significant to both the organization and the player.

Recently, the team president of hockey operations and general manager Kyle Dubas talked about the situation and admitted that Malkin stated publicly that he wants to be back next season. Although Dubas spoke highly of the influence and leadership of the forward, he also said that the negotiations between the team and the representatives of the player will be primarily confidential when both parties consider their opportunities.

Kyle Dubas discusses Evgeni Malkin’s NHL contract situation with the Pittsburgh Penguins

Dubas clarified that there is constant communication between the Penguins and the camp of Malkin. Nevertheless, he implied that it would be of no use to publicly disclose negotiation information, which would be favorable to both parties. The executive pointed out that the organization would rather deal with such issues within the organization but still remains appreciative of the fact that Malkin is transparent and open about his future.

Malkin is considered by many to be a legend in the franchise in the city of Pittsburgh and still has a significant role to play with the team this season. The Russian center has continued to be one of the most productive players of the Penguins and has also become a strong leader within the locker room, especially to the younger and Russian-speaking players who are adapting to the NHL.

One more thing Dubas discussed in his speech is the strategy of the team before the trade deadline. Instead of major changes, the Penguins seem to be concerned with bringing on board players who will be beneficial to the team even after this season.

Simultaneously, the Penguins’ front office feels that the roster already has several impactful additions that have been attained in the previous season.

At this point, it is not clear what the future of Malkin in Pittsburgh would be in the long-term, but the talks are likely to roll on as the offseason approaches.
