North India braces for unseasonal heat, temperatures to spike on Wednesday

Large parts of north and west India are set to witness unusually high temperatures on Tuesday, with weather conditions resembling late March rather than the final days of February.

Maximum temperatures are likely to range between 34°C and 38°C across Rajasthan, while Delhi and Haryana could see daytime highs between 32°C and 34°C.

In Uttar Pradesh, temperatures may climb up to 36°C. The expected readings are 5 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal for this time of the year, marking a significant early-season heat spike.

Delhi is forecast to experience completely dry conditions with clear skies and abundant sunshine. The bright, cloud-free weather is expected to push the mercury close to 33°C in the national capital.

Weather experts say the absence of any major western disturbances or rainfall systems is allowing daytime temperatures to rise steadily.

Gujarat is also likely to feel the heat, with temperatures expected to touch 38°C for the first time this season. This would mark one of the earliest instances of such high readings in 2026.

Despite the sharp rise in daytime temperatures, nights are expected to remain relatively comfortable. Minimum temperatures are likely to stay around 20°C or below across much of north India until at least the first week of March.

This contrast between warm afternoons and cooler nights may continue for several more days.

The dry and hot spell is expected to persist through the festival of Holi and possibly beyond, extending the unusually warm conditions into early March. With no significant rainfall forecast in the coming days, residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours.

The early surge in temperatures has raised concerns about a prolonged and intense summer ahead if similar patterns continue into March.

For now, however, the immediate outlook points to clear skies, dry weather and a warm end to February across much of northern and western India.
