Anshula Kapoor opens up about missing mom Mona during engagement; says Boney Kapoor wanted her wedding at home: ‘The grief has resurfaced so strongly’

Boney Kapoor’s eldest daughter, Anshula Kapoor, got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Rohan Thakkar. She shared photos from the ceremony on social media, which saw the entire Kapoor clan come together for the couple’s Gor Dhana ceremony, a Gujarati pre-wedding ritual which is essentially an engagement ceremony. Among those present were her brother Arjun Kapoor and half-sisters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor, who joined in to celebrate the couple’s new beginning. In a recent interaction, Anshula spoke about the ceremony and revealed why they chose to organise it at home.

Sharing the reason behind hosting the ceremony at home, she told Hindustan Times, “Rohan and I always imagined our gor dhana to be a close knit celebration with family. We wanted it be cozy, warm, intimate, and we are glad that’s exactly how it turned out to be.”

Anshula also spoke about Boney Kapoor’s reaction when she told him about her decision to get married. “When I had first spoken with dad and my siblings about knowing that Rohan and I were ready to take the next step in our relationship, dad was the most excited and he said he only has one wish – that I get married at home. So keeping that wish in high regard, I wanted our first ceremony to be held at his house. I’m so grateful that Rohan and his family embraced that wholeheartedly,” she said.

Anshula revealed that for the Gor Dhana ceremony, her outfit paid tribute to Rohan’s Gujarati roots, and she kept her ensemble a surprise for him– he only got to see her look at the ceremony. “Rohan is deeply connected to his roots, and it was important to me to honour that. My lehenga reflected those influences with Bandhini, traditional Kutch embroidery and mirror work woven into it.” She added, “Rohan didn’t want to know or see what I was wearing until the day and the look in his eyes when he first saw me meant everything and more.”

Anshula admitted that she had been missing her mother, Mona Shourie Kapoor, ever since Rohan proposed to her in New York. She said, “Since the day Rohan proposed, I’ve been missing mum even more. The grief has resurfaced so strongly, and I knew I needed her close to me. That’s why I had her words, ‘Rab Raakha’ embroidered on the back of my outfit. She was always my wings, my biggest support system, and I knew I needed to feel her with me while I’m at the cusp of starting a new chapter in my life. More than ever.”

For the unversed, Anshula is Boney Kapoor’s eldest daughter from his first wife, Mona Shourie Kapoor. The couple also had a son, actor Arjun Kapoor. Boney and Mona were married from 1983 to 1996. During their marriage, Boney was in a relationship with the late actor Sridevi. The two later separated, and he married Sridevi in 1996. The couple had two daughters together — Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.
