PM Modi Returns from G20 Summit: Key Outcomes and India’s AI Leadership

PM Modi Returns to Delhi After Successful G20 Summit in South Africa

Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to New Delhi on Monday morning after concluding his official visit to South Africa for the G20 Summit, where he participated in multiple sessions and held crucial bilateral meetings with world leaders.

Key Outcomes from the Summit

  • G20 leaders approved a comprehensive 122-point declaration despite US boycott
  • India and Italy launched joint initiative to counter terrorism financing
  • PM Modi announced India will host AI Impact Summit in February 2026
  • Discussions focused on critical minerals, AI governance and global equity

Strengthening International Partnerships

During his visit to Johannesburg from November 22-23, PM Modi held significant bilateral talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The two leaders adopted the India-Italy Joint Initiative to Counter Financing of Terrorism, reinforcing their shared commitment to combat terrorism.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the leaders discussed expanding cooperation across multiple sectors including trade, investment, technology, artificial intelligence, defence, security, space research, innovation and culture.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with progress on the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-29 and PM Meloni confirmed strong support for the AI Summit India will host in 2026.

India’s Vision for Technology and Development

Addressing the third G20 Summit session focused on ensuring a fair future for all, PM Modi emphasized India’s approach to promoting “human-centric, global and open source” technology rather than finance-driven or exclusive systems.

He outlined India’s AI strategy built on three pillars: equitable access, population-scale skilling and responsible deployment. The Prime Minister stressed that India’s AI Mission aims to ensure benefits reach every district and language community.

PM Modi called for creating a global compact to prevent AI misuse, specifically mentioning concerns about deepfakes, crime and terrorism. He announced India’s preparation to host the AI Impact Summit in February 2026 under the theme ‘Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya’ (welfare and happiness for all).

Future-Focused Approach

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to shift from “jobs for today” to building “capabilities for tomorrow.” He expressed hope that the G20 would develop a global framework for talent mobility in coming years to boost innovation and benefit youth worldwide.

The summit concluded with participating nations endorsing the comprehensive declaration focused on global equity, multilateral restructuring and sustainable development goals, signaling renewed alignment in a multipolar world.
