Development-Centric Disaster Resilience

PM Modi stated that disaster resilience must be development-centric rather than merely response-focused. During India’s G20 Presidency, the country established the Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group and proposed a G20 Open Satellite Data Partnership.

“When it comes to disaster resilience, the approach has to be development-centric, not only response-centric,” the Prime Minister said, noting that the satellite data initiative would make space agency resources more accessible to Global South countries.

Critical Minerals and Food Security Initiatives

The Prime Minister unveiled India’s proposal for a G20 Critical Minerals Circularity Initiative to promote recycling, urban mining, second-life battery use, and clean-energy innovations.

He highlighted climate change’s adverse effects on agriculture and food security, pointing to India’s response through the world’s largest food security program, health insurance scheme, and crop insurance coverage. India is also promoting nutritious millets (Shree Anna) as part of its food security strategy.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi called for re-evaluating global developmental parameters, particularly significant as Africa hosts the G20 Summit for the first time.
