Drone hits residential building in Bahrain- video

Bahrain’s interior ministry on Saturday said several residential buildings in the capital, Manama, were targeted. In a statement, the ministry said civil defence teams are carrying out firefighting and rescue operations at the affected sites.

Online video footage verified by Al Jazeera showed an Iranian drone striking a tower in Manama. A loud explosion was heard at the moment of impact, followed by a large fire and thick smoke rising from the building.

Earlier, Iran launched a targeted missile strike on a United States military base in Bahrain. The government called it a “treacherous attack” and “a blatant violation of the kingdom’s sovereignty and security”.

Iran also targeted US assets across Gulf Arab states. The Iranian government confirmed strikes on several locations, according to the Fars news agency, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, where US airbases are located.

The strikes come as Israel and US on Saturday launched a daylight “preventive attack” against Iran. The Islamic nation carried out retaliatory strikes on American military bases across the Middle East under an operation it named “Truthful Promise 4”, hours after joint US-Israel airstrikes hit Tehran.
