Abhishek Sharma decided to unveil a new celebration after he scored a blistering hundred against Delhi Capitals at the Uppal on Tuesday, April 21. Abhishek played an uncharacteristic innings by his own lofty standards, starting off in a rather subdued manner before catching fire.
Abhishek scored his fifty off 25 balls, his second slowest one in Hyderabad before getting to his landmark in the next 22 deliveries that he faced. However, it was his celebration that caught the eye of everyone. Instead of his L celebration, Abhishek stood there with his arms folded, with a big smile on his face and his eyes firmly directed towards the SRH dugout.
Speaking after remaining unbeaten on 135 off 68 balls, Abhishek revealed that it was dedicated to James Franklin, who told him to stay at the crease for the entirety of the innings.
“It’s just I had a plan with Franky and he just wanted me to bat till the 20 overs. I think this is the first time that I have batted for 20 overs. The wicket wasn’t too easy. But if you play good cricket, they have the talent in that team. You have to play well to defend it,” said Abhishek.
‘ALWAYS SPECIAL TO SCORE FOR ORANGE ARMY’
It was Abhishek’s second hundred at the Uppal, after scoring 141 runs against PBKS last season. Abhishek said it was special to score another hundred for the SRH fans.
Abhishek also admitted that he didn’t get a lot of death over batting in as he specialises at going hard in the initial part of the innings.
“I mean of course it’s always special to perform in front of the orange army. The way they bowled in the death overs, I thought they were executing their plans. I think I haven’t practiced death batting much. But the way Klaasen played, it helped us get to that total,” said Abhishek.
SRH are chasing their third win of the season.
