Huawei is gearing up to launch a book-style, wide foldable smartphone in China, dubbed the Pura X Max. The device is set to debut on April 20 alongside the Huawei Pura 90 and Pura 90 Pro Max. Ahead of the launch, the company has already begun teasing the smartphone online, where it appears in a narrow foldable design with a horizontal, pill-shaped rear camera module.
With Apple’s foldable iPhone already generating buzz and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 8 expected to arrive around July this year, Huawei’s early launch could give it a head start in the evolving foldable smartphone segment.
Huawei Pura X Max design, specs and features
Design-wise, the Pura X Max is somewhere between traditional flip-style and book-style foldables. It is expected to offer a more natural experience for landscape-oriented tasks such as video streaming, gaming, and multitasking. The smartphone features a triple rear camera setup and a textured rear panel design inspired by last year’s Pura X. It carries a punch-hole camera on both the inner and outer screen and has a flat frame. Early visuals also suggest a minimal display crease, although full details will be confirmed at launch.
While Huawei has not yet revealed complete specifications, leaks indicate that the device could feature a 7.69-inch internal display with WQHD+ resolution, along with a 5.5-inch cover screen. The smartphone is likely to use the Kirin 9030 chipset.
The Chinese tech giant has already opened pre-orders for the upcoming foldable. The smartphone is listed in multiple configurations, including 12GB RAM with 256GB storage, 12GB RAM with 512GB storage, a 16GB RAM/512GB Collector’s Edition, and a 16GB RAM/1TB Collector’s Edition.
In terms of colours, the Pura X Max will likely come in blue, white, orange, and black colour options. Pricing and global availability remain unclear at this stage.
For context, the Huawei Pura X was launched in China on April 20, 2026. It features a foldable LTPO2 OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 2,500 nits peak brightness, along with a secondary 3.5-inch cover screen. The device is powered by the Kirin 9020 chipset, paired with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB of internal storage. For photography, it offers a triple rear camera setup including a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom, and a 40MP ultrawide camera, along with a 10.7MP front camera. The smartphone packs a 4,720mAh battery with support for 66W wired and 40W wireless charging, as well as reverse charging capabilities.
