Rift in Pakistan camp? Pak coach opens up on Salman Agha outburst in Namibia clash

Head coach Mike Hesson has clarified the viral video that surfaced during Pakistan’s T20 World Cup Super 8 clash against Namibia. In the clip, Hesson appeared to be engaged in a heated exchange with Salman Agha, who was seen smashing a bottle on the ground. Babar Azam was seated between them as the conversation unfolded.

Speaking before Pakistan’s Super 8 match against New Zealand, Hesson explained that Agha was simply frustrated after getting out and reacted in disappointment. He added that the footage was widely misinterpreted and stressed that his discussion with the Pakistan skipper was straightforward and unrelated to Agha’s reaction.

“I’ve seen the video that was sent to me, and you’ve got it completely wrong. Let me explain what actually happened. I was walking over to speak to Salman and to ask Nawaz to put his pads on as a left-hander. Agha had just gotten out and was understandably upset, so he threw his bottle to the ground. It had nothing to do with the conversation we were having,” Hesson said in the pre-match press conference.

“Once the left-arm spinner had finished his over, we discussed Shadab getting his pads on to come in. It was a very straightforward conversation, and Agha wasn’t even part of it. He was simply disappointed about his dismissal and happened to be nearby. It’s remarkable how easily situations can be misinterpreted,” Hesson added.

PAKISTAN AND SALMAN’S PERFORMANCE IN T20 WC

Salman Agha endured a modest start to the tournament, scoring 12, 1 and 4 against the Netherlands, the United States and India, respectively. However, he rediscovered his touch against Namibia, producing a fluent 38 off 23 balls, laced with three fours and two sixes.

He was dismissed by Jack Brassell while attempting a lofted shot after stitching together a 67-run partnership for the second wicket with Sahibzada Farhan. It was a must-win fixture for Pakistan, and they delivered in style, securing a commanding 102-run victory to book their place in the Super 8.

Pakistan had begun their campaign with a narrow three-wicket win over the Netherlands, followed by a 32-run triumph against the United States. A 61-run defeat to India briefly stalled their momentum, but they bounced back strongly with a dominant performance against Namibia.
