Hot weather expected in plains on Holi, rain likely over Himalayas

Maximum temperatures are soaring across the nation as intense heat takes over without any transition. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that maximum temperatures are currently running four to eight degrees Celsius above normal across Northwest India.

The mercury is already climbing, with Akola in Maharashtra recording the highest temperature of 38.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

The weather is likely to be hot and dry across northwest India on Holi, and rain is expected in the hills.

HOW HOT WILL IT BE IN DELHI TOMORROW?

Residents in the national capital should prepare for a warm Wednesday. The IMD predicts a mainly clear sky with maximum temperatures reaching 34 degrees Celsius.

Devendra Tripathi, the founder of Mausam Tak, explained that dry winds from the northwest are dominating the region. “Northwest winds will continue to keep the weather dry and hot across the plains of India.”

Skymet Weather reports suggest that this absence of rain is contributing to the rapid heating.

Independent weather expert Navdeep Dahiya noted that the national capital witnessed a record high temperature of 31.5 degrees Celsius today. The temperature is expected to climb to 34 degrees Celsius tomorrow.

He warned that parts of Rajasthan could see temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius by the weekend.

Devendra Tripathi stated that this warming trend is fuelled by a lack of strong weather systems. In the absence of a strong Western Disturbance, the heat is rising rapidly across the plains.

WILL IT RAIN IN NORTH INDIA?

While the plains remain dry, the mountains are likely to get a respite from the heat. The IMD has forecast light rainfall or snowfall over Jammu and Kashmir starting from March 4.

Devendra Tripathi noted that a feeble Western Disturbance is approaching the Himalayan region. However, he clarified that it would not be strong enough to trigger any significant cooling in the plains.

IS THERE A RAIN ALERT FOR NORTHEAST INDIA?

Skymet and official weather bulletins have said that isolated light rainfall is likely over Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a dense fog warning over Sikkim in the morning hours of March 4.

Devendra Tripathi observed that while the northeast sees some moisture, the rest of the country remains under a firm grip of rising heat, with hot and humid conditions expected in coastal Gujarat and Konkan.
