Nissan is set to introduce the Gravite in India today, making it the only sub-4 metre MPV after the Renault Triber. Positioned as the brand’s second mainstream offering after the Nissan Magnite, the Gravite is expected to broaden Nissan’s appeal in the mass market space.
Positioning and expected price
The Gravite will go up against the Renault Triber, with which it shares its underpinnings. Given this positioning, introductory prices are likely to start around Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom) and extend to roughly Rs 9 lakh for higher trims. The final pricing and variant breakdown will be announced at launch.
Familiar base, sharper identity
While mechanically related to the Triber, the Gravite adopts distinct styling cues to carve out its own identity. Up front, it features a larger grille and more angular bumpers, lending it a taller and more assertive stance. The LED lighting layout appears structurally similar to its Renault sibling, though the daytime running light signature has been tweaked for differentiation. Subtle bonnet creases add to its visual presence.
The side profile remains clean and functional, with steel wheels and stylised wheel covers helping to keep costs in check. At the rear, a sculpted bumper gives the MPV a slightly sportier finish.
Dual-tone cabin and flexible seating
Inside, the Gravite is expected to feature a dual-tone black-and-white theme that enhances the sense of space. The dashboard layout prioritises practicality and ease of use over elaborate design elements.
As a three-row MPV, flexibility is central to its appeal. The third-row seats are likely to be removable, allowing owners to significantly increase boot space when required. The second row is expected to offer sliding and reclining functions, improving comfort while adding versatility for luggage management.
A freestanding 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system is expected to sit at the centre of the dashboard, with support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The steering wheel, shared with the Magnite, is likely to feature gloss black accents, leatherette wrapping, contrast stitching and integrated controls. To maintain affordability, features such as cruise control are unlikely to be offered.
Comfort and convenience
Rear-seat comfort appears to be a priority. The Gravite is expected to get rear AC vents along with a roof-mounted blower to ensure effective cooling across all three rows — a crucial factor for Indian conditions. A push-button start system, paired with a slim smart key, is likely to be offered on higher variants.
Engine and transmission
Under the hood, the Gravite is expected to be powered by a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine producing 72bhp and 96Nm of torque. Transmission choices are likely to include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.
A turbo-petrol option is not anticipated at launch, underlining the Gravite’s focus on affordability and practicality rather than outright performance.
What to expect
With the Gravite, Nissan is targeting buyers seeking the space and flexibility of a seven-seater without stretching into higher price brackets. Its strengths are expected to lie in modular seating, urban-friendly dimensions and essential modern features.
