Looking for a Tata Punch EV? The facelift arrives tomorrow

If you’re planning to buy the Tata Punch EV, you might want to wait a little longer. The electric micro-SUV is set to receive its first major update tomorrow, subtle styling tweaks, feature enhancements and potential range revisions to Tata Motors’ most accessible electric SUV.

Timed to align with the recently refreshed ICE Punch, the update aims to keep the electric version visually in sync while sharpening its appeal in the fast-growing entry-level EV segment.

Exterior design

Tata recently revealed the exterior design of the electric Punch facelift and undisguised sightings have also revealed the full exterior ahead of launch. Up front, the facelift adopts a cleaner design language, highlighted by a more neatly integrated closed-off grille. The black strip that earlier connected the headlamps has been removed, giving the nose a more contemporary and less cluttered appearance.

The slim LED DRLs continue as part of the lighting signature, while the main headlamp units sit lower in the bumper. A reworked lower bumper with crisper creases, a revised air dam and a fresh skid plate design lend the Punch EV a slightly more assertive stance.

In profile, the silhouette remains familiar. New exterior colour choices including a bright yellow and a copper-brown shade will expand the palette. At the rear, a connected LED light bar now stretches across the tailgate, visually linking it with the updated petrol-powered Punch.

Interior design

While Tata Motors has not officially showcased the interior yet, the changes inside are likely to be evolutionary rather than radical. The dashboard layout is expected to remain intact, but higher variants could receive a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with updated software, potentially sourced from the brand’s bigger EVs.

Existing features such as the 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, ambient lighting, connected car technology and a 360-degree camera are expected to continue. There is also the possibility of added safety tech, depending on the variant mix.

Bigger battery pack likely to come

Mechanically, the Punch EV facelift is expected to carry forward its current battery configurations. The 25kWh pack produces 82bhp and 114Nm of torque, offering a claimed range of 265km. The larger 35kWh battery develops 122bhp and 190Nm, with a claimed range of up to 365km.

Tata has hinted at the possibility of a higher-capacity battery option, although official details will only be confirmed at launch. Minor revisions to the certified range figures could also accompany the update.

Expected pricing and competition

The outgoing Punch EV is currently priced between Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 14.44 lakh (ex-showroom). A modest price revision is likely, particularly for better-equipped variants. How well Tata can price the bigger battery pack remains to be seen.

Once launched, the refreshed Punch EV will continue to take on rivals such as the Citroen eC3 in the under-Rs 15 lakh electric vehicle space.
