Air India cancels 28 Europe, US, Canada flights on March 1 amid Middle East tensions

NEW DELHI: Air India on Saturday announced the cancellation of 28 international flights connecting India with cities in Europe, the US and Canada for March 1, citing the evolving situation in the Middle East.

“As part of our continuing assessment of the evolving situation in the Middle East, in the interest of the safety and security of our guests and staff, Air India has cancelled the following flights scheduled on 01 March 2026,”the airline said in a post on X.

The affected services include flights between Delhi and London (Heathrow), Mumbai and London (Heathrow), Amritsar and London (Gatwick), Delhi and New York (JFK), Mumbai and New York (JFK), Mumbai and Newark, Delhi and Chicago (via Vienna), Delhi and Toronto (via Vienna), Delhi and Frankfurt, Mumbai and Frankfurt, and Delhi and Paris.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our valued guests by these disruptions, whom we are notifying of the cancellations and supporting with alternative options to minimise the inconvenience. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and share further updates based on our risk assessments,” the post added.

Earlier, the airline had said in a separate post that it was cancelling all flights to destinations in the Middle East until 2359 hours on March 1 due to the “current situation in the Middle East”.

“The safety and security of our passengers, crew and aircraft remain our highest priority. We will continue to assess the situation and take appropriate operational decisions as necessary. Affected passengers are being informed, and our teams are providing all required assistance to our passengers, including rebooking and refunds,” the airline said.

It comes as earlier in the day US-Israel attacked Iran in coordinated strikes at multiple locations, starting with areas near-by Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei. Iran in its retaliation targeted Israel, along with US military bases and other allies in the region.
