When Ranbir Kapoor opens up about Raj Kapoor’s ‘scary’ Holi bash: ‘Everybody was thrown into trucks’

With Holi around the corner, old Bollywood memories are resurfacing across the internet. One story that continues to fascinate fans is about the grand celebrations once hosted by showman Raj Kapoor. In an old interview, Ranbir Kapoor shared childhood memories of attending those iconic gatherings.

A childhood memory that felt “scary”

Ranbir revealed in an interaction at the International Film Festival of India that he attended the celebration when he was very young, which made the atmosphere overwhelming. The scale of the event and the intensity of the colours left a lasting impression on him.

He said, “I was really young, so it was a very scary environment for me. Everyone was coloured in black and many other colours, sabko aise truck mai faika jaaraha hai (everyone was being thrown into trucks). You might have better memories, I guess.”

Director Rahul Rawail, who was also present, agreed with the description. He added, “You were right about that, sab kaale neele peele hote the (Everyone used to be drenched in different colours). It used to be a day celebration.”

A festival that united the entire film industry

These parties were not limited to stars alone. According to Ranbir, people from every department attended. Technicians, production staff and crew members all celebrated together.

He explained, “What I have heard is that not just the actors and actresses, it was everybody in the film industry. Even the people working in camera, production, everybody used to come and celebrate together.”

Why the celebrations eventually stopped

Despite their popularity, the gatherings became difficult to manage over time. As word spread, crowds grew uncontrollably. Security and organisation became major challenges.

Rahul Rawail explained the reason for their end, saying, “Gradually, why those parties stopped was because it became too much of a crowd. It was unmanageable because anyone used to just walk in.”

Ranbir Kapoor’s exciting upcoming films

Another major project is Nitesh Tiwari’s epic ;Ramayana’, where Ranbir will portray Lord Ram opposite Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The film is expected to release during Diwali 2026, making it one of the most anticipated releases in Indian cinema.
