A 22-year-old Indian national, who was accused of being involved in extortion-related criminal activities, has been deported from Canada, according to reports. The deportation comes amid a crackdown on immigrants from Canada linked to organised crime networks.
The Surrey Police Service (SPS) stated that Lovebir Singh, who had been living in Canada since 2023, was identified in early 2026 as a suspect in extortion-related offences. Following Singh’s identification, police shared intelligence with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), whose investigation into his immigration statistics led to his deportation.
The SPS on Monday released a photograph of Lovebir Singh, stating it was necessary to assist ongoing investigations into extortion networks and encourage witnesses, victims and associates to come forward. The police say any public input related to the image could help identify more individuals and criminal networks involved in extortion in Canada.
“Any information provided by the public or associates can assist police in gathering information on the people and potential criminal networks involved in violent extortions,” the SPS stated.
Lovebir Singh’s deportation marks the second expulsion of an identified Indian from Canada after being alleged to have participated in extortion-related criminal activities.
Following his arrest in November 2025, an Indian national named Arshdeep Singh had been deported for extortion-related violence across Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta, according to a report by the Canadian news outlet, CBFC.
According to the CBFC report, he was photographed with Bandhu Maan Singh Sekhon, who was later arrested by Delhi Police and identified as the prime conspirator in at least three shootings targeting Kap’s Cafe in Surrey between July and October 2025.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is also investigating an additional 296 persons of interest identified by the British Columbia Extortion Task Force. So far, 10 individuals have been deported and 32 issued removal orders.
These two deportations come against the backdrop of a record number of removals from Canada. More than 22,000 people deemed inadmissible were deported in 2025, up from 17,357 in 2024. CBSA data shows 1,010 removals involved serious inadmissibility, including organised crime and criminality.
While a citizenship-wise breakup for 2025 is unavailable, CBSA enforced the removal of 2,831 Indian nationals in the first 10 months of 2025, out of a total of 18,785. Indians formed the second-largest group of deported individuals after Mexicans.
