The Jharkhand govt has announced the allocation of Rs 361. 67 crore to the tourism, art, culture, sports and youth affairs department in the Abua Dishom Budget 2026–27 on Tuesday, with a focus on eco-tourism, adventure infrastructure and sports development to generate employment and boost local livelihoods.
A series of tourism infrastructure projects across districts were announced during the budget. These include construction of glass bridges at Dassam and Jonha waterfalls and a ropeway at Hundru in Ranchi district; tourism development at Rajrappa and a skywalk at Patratu along with solar boats and a floating restaurant at Patratu reservoir in Ramgarh district.
In Latehar district, the govt will construct a glass dome tower at Koel View Point in Netarhat and a skywalk at Magnolia Point.
Eco-tourism circuits will also be developed at Perwaghagh waterfall and Pandu-Pudding picnic spot in Khunti. Ropeway development has been proposed at Koleshwari hill in Chatra, while Punasi dam in Deoghar and Malay dam in Palamu will undergo tourism development.
“The objective is to promote eco-tourism and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities while strengthening tourism infrastructure,” finance minister Radha Krishana Kishore said, adding that the govt’s focus on tourism is to kindle untapped potential and generate livelihoods.
The allocation marks an increase from Rs 336.64 crore in 2025–26 to Rs 361.67 crore in 2026–27, which is a rise of Rs 25.03 crore, or 7.43%.
The department currently operates 41 residential sports training centres and 102 day-boarding centres, with plans to open more. Upgradation of Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium in Ranchi and installation of an eight-lane synthetic track in Dumka have also been approved.
Tourism secretary Mukesh Kumar said sustained tourist interest would depend on consistent upkeep and management.
