Sanchar Saathi Recovers 50,000+ Stolen Phones in October

Sanchar Saathi Recovers Over 50,000 Stolen Phones in October

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced a major achievement for its Sanchar Saathi portal, with over 50,000 lost or stolen mobile handsets recovered across India in October 2025 alone. This brings the nationwide recovery total past the 7 lakh milestone, demonstrating the system’s growing effectiveness.

Key State Performances

  • Karnataka & Telangana: Each state has crossed 1 lakh total device recoveries.
  • Maharashtra: Follows closely with over 80,000 devices recovered.

Monthly recovery figures have surged by 47% from June to October 2025. The system is now recovering more than one mobile handset every minute nationwide.

How Sanchar Saathi Works

At the core of this success is an indigenously developed platform featuring automated workflows and real-time device tracking. The technology prevents misuse of blocked phones by triggering instant alerts when a new SIM is inserted into a reported device. These alerts are sent to both the registered owner and the nearest police station, enabling swift recovery.

Collaborative Success

This achievement results from seamless coordination between police forces across states and union territories, DoT’s Digital Intelligence Unit (DIU), and field units. Regular capacity-building programs and police partnerships have strengthened on-ground response capabilities.

The DoT encourages citizens to download the Sanchar Saathi app to report lost or stolen devices, verify the authenticity of phones before purchase, and report suspected fraudulent communications.
