India-Israel FTA Talks Advance as Goyal Meets Netanyahu

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal concluded a significant three-day visit to Israel, culminating in a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that accelerated Free Trade Agreement negotiations and strengthened innovation partnerships.

Goyal conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s warm wishes and briefed Netanyahu on discussions with Minister Nir Barkat, along with outcomes from the Business Forum and CEOs Forum.

“Honoured to call on the Prime Minister of Israel, H.E. @Netanyahu, at the conclusion of my three-day visit. Conveyed to him the warm wishes of Prime Minister @NarendraModi ji. Updated him on my discussions with Minister @NirBarkat and the successful holding of Business Forum and CEOs Forum held with over 60-member Indian business delegation that accompanied me. Highlighted the signing of the Terms of Reference to launch FTA negotiations, which will boost trade, investment and technology cooperation. Discussed strengthening our innovation partnership by combining Israel’s hi-tech strengths with India’s scale and talent. Took his guidance on further deepening bilateral economic and strategic engagement across the sectors of agriculture, water, defence, science & technology and innovation,” Piyush Goyal posted on X.

Agricultural Collaboration Advances

During meetings on November 21, Goyal discussed agricultural cooperation with Israeli Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Avi Dichter. The Israeli side presented their 25-year food security roadmap, advanced seed-improvement strategies, and global leadership in water-reuse technologies.

Trade Relations Strengthened

The visit began on November 20 with Goyal meeting Israel’s Minister of Economy Nir Barkat, where both leaders reviewed bilateral trade trajectories and explored new cooperation areas, setting the stage for the FTA breakthrough.

The successful visit underscores growing India-Israel collaboration across economic, technological, and strategic domains, paving the way for expanded cooperation in the years ahead.
