China Suspends Rare Earth Export Controls Through 2026

China Suspends Rare Earth Export Controls for One Year

China has temporarily suspended multiple export control measures on strategic materials including rare earths, lithium battery components, and super-hard materials. The suspension, announced by China’s commerce ministry, takes effect immediately and will remain in force until November 10, 2026.

Key Details of the Suspension

  • Suspended measures were originally imposed on October 9
  • Covers rare earth materials, processing equipment, lithium battery materials, and super-hard materials
  • Effective immediately through November 10, 2026

The ministry statement confirmed this move formalizes an agreement reached during last month’s trade negotiations between US President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Both the White House and China’s commerce ministry had previously indicated this announcement was forthcoming.
