ChatGPT Go Free for One Year in India: How to Get It

Key Takeaways

  • OpenAI offers free one-year ChatGPT Go subscriptions to all Indian users
  • Existing ChatGPT Go subscribers automatically get free access
  • Plan includes GPT-5 access with 10x higher limits than free tier
  • Payment details required despite free offer

OpenAI has launched a special one-year free subscription to ChatGPT Go for all users in India, starting November 4. This move significantly expands access to premium AI features in OpenAI’s second-largest market.

What is ChatGPT Go?

Originally launched in August as an affordable premium plan priced at ₹399 per month, ChatGPT Go provides expanded access to OpenAI’s latest GPT-5 model. The free one-year offer represents a major push to strengthen OpenAI’s presence in the Indian market.

Eligibility and Access Process

The free ChatGPT Go subscription is available to all ChatGPT account holders in India. Existing ChatGPT Go subscribers will be automatically switched to the free one-year plan.

To activate your free subscription:

  • Log into your ChatGPT account via website or app
  • Look for the upgrade pop-up notification
  • If no pop-up appears, navigate to ‘My Profile’ and click ‘Upgrade’
  • Select the ChatGPT Go plan showing as free
  • Complete checkout with payment details (required for activation)

ChatGPT Go Features

The plan offers substantial upgrades over the free tier:

  • Full access to GPT-5 model
  • 10x higher message, image generation, and file upload limits
  • 2x larger context window for better conversation continuity
  • Access to custom GPTs and projects
  • Local file knowledge search capability (in addition to web search)

Limitations to Note

While feature-rich, ChatGPT Go doesn’t include API access, special modes, OpenAI’s video generation platform Sora, or the coding agent Codex. The knowledge search limitation to web-only in the free plan is lifted with ChatGPT Go.
