Elon Musk Demands Probe Into OpenAI Whistleblower’s Death

Key Takeaways

  • Elon Musk demands a ‘proper investigation’ into the death of former OpenAI researcher Suchir Balaji.
  • Balaji, a key figure in ChatGPT’s data training, was found dead in November 2024.
  • His parents and Musk have raised suspicions, citing cut security camera wires and claims he was not suicidal.

Elon Musk has publicly called for a thorough investigation into the death of OpenAI whistleblower Suchir Balaji, stating the case “should be properly investigated.” During a conversation with Joe Rogan, Musk expressed strong suspicions, noting, “It seems he was murdered, the wires of security cameras were cut.”

Suchir Balaji, a former OpenAI researcher, was found deceased in his apartment in November 2024. According to a New York Times report, he was instrumental in collecting and organizing the vast online datasets used to train ChatGPT.

Balaji had resigned from OpenAI in August, stating he no longer wanted to support technologies he believed could harm society. His parents have consistently insisted their son was “murdered.”

Musk reinforced these concerns, revealing, “People that I know, who knew him, said he was not suicidal.” Referring to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Musk added, “I don’t know if he’s guilty, but it’s not possible to look more guilty.”
