Bengaluru Techie Orders Rs 1.87 Lakh Galaxy Z Fold 7, Gets Marble Tile

Key Takeaways

  • Bengaluru techie receives marble tile instead of Rs 1.87 lakh Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 ordered from Amazon
  • Victim recorded unboxing video, filed police complaint and cybercrime report
  • Amazon refunded full amount, police investigation ongoing
  • Incident highlights sophisticated online delivery scams using weight-matched items

Bengaluru Techie’s Amazon Nightmare: Rs 1.87 Lakh Phone Order Delivers Marble Tile

A Bengaluru-based tech professional experienced a shocking delivery scam when his Rs 1,87,000 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 order from Amazon India arrived containing a marble tile instead of the premium foldable smartphone.

Premanand, the victim, had wisely recorded the entire unboxing process for safety and transparency. The video evidence proved crucial when he discovered the substitution.

Immediate Action and Police Investigation

Recognizing he had fallen victim to an elaborate scam, Premanand promptly reported the incident to the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and filed an official complaint at Bengaluru’s Kumaraswamy Police Station.

Police have launched an investigation to determine where and how the order was tampered with during the delivery process.

Amazon’s Response and Refund

Amazon India responded to the complaint by refunding the entire Rs 1,87,000 amount to Premanand. The company has assured full cooperation with the ongoing police investigation.

Growing Sophistication of Delivery Scams

This incident highlights the increasing sophistication of online delivery fraud. Unlike earlier scams that could be detected through poor packaging or weight discrepancies, this case involved a tile that matched the phone’s weight almost perfectly.

Premanand noted that the identical weight made it impossible to suspect anything was wrong until the package was opened.

Safety Reminder for Online Shoppers

This case serves as a critical reminder for online shoppers, particularly those purchasing high-value electronics, to record their unboxing sessions and remain vigilant about delivery integrity.

The practice of recording unboxing videos has become an essential safety measure in the era of sophisticated e-commerce fraud.
