Lennart Karl, 17, Becomes Bayern’s Youngest Champions League Scorer

Lennart Karl, 17, Makes History as Bayern’s Youngest Champions League Scorer

Key Takeaways

  • 17-year-old Lennart Karl becomes Bayern’s youngest-ever Champions League scorer
  • Record-breaking goal came just 5 minutes into his first UCL start
  • Bayern secured a dominant 4-0 victory over Club Brugge
  • Karl broke Jamal Musiala’s previous record by 121 days

Seventeen-year-old sensation Lennart Karl created Champions League history on Wednesday, becoming Bayern Munich’s youngest-ever goalscorer in the competition during his first start.

The teenage prodigy needed just five minutes against Club Brugge to etch his name into the record books, breaking a milestone previously held by Jamal Musiala.

Dream Start for Young Talent

Karl’s record-breaking moment showcased his exceptional talent. Receiving a midfield pass from Jonathan Tah, the youngster skillfully dodged defender Brandon Mechele before driving toward the edge of the box and unleashing a swerving left-foot shot that sailed over goalkeeper Nordin Jackers.

His emotional celebration included a knee slide, followed by embraces from senior teammates Harry Kane and Aleksandar Pavlovic. The Munich crowd showed their appreciation with a standing ovation when Karl was substituted in the 69th minute.

Bayern’s Dominant Victory

Karl’s early strike set the tone for Bayern’s comprehensive 4-0 triumph. The victory featured multiple landmark goals, including Harry Kane’s 20th of the season across all competitions from a Konrad Laimer cross.

Luis Díaz marked his first Champions League goal for Bayern since arriving from Liverpool, while Nicolas Jackson completed the scoring with a 79th-minute rebound.

The result maintains Bayern’s perfect record, making them one of only five teams to win all three opening group stage matches.

Record-Breaking Details

At 17 years and 242 days, Karl surpassed Musiala’s record by 121 days. UEFA confirmed the teenager now holds the distinction as Bayern’s youngest Champions League scorer.

In a remarkable coincidence, Karl wears the same number 42 shirt that Musiala wore when he set the previous record against Lazio four years ago.

The goal represents Karl’s first at senior level in his 10th appearance for Bayern. He made his club debut during June’s Club World Cup, featuring in a 10-0 victory over Auckland City.
