Dhanteras 2025: Gold & Silver Rush Drives ₹1 Lakh Crore Sales

Dhanteras 2025: Gold and Silver Rush Drives ₹1 Lakh Crore Spending Spree

Indian consumers splurged a massive ₹1 lakh crore on Dhanteras 2025, with gold and silver purchases alone accounting for ₹60,000 crore despite record-high prices. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) reported a 25% increase in precious metal sales compared to last year.

Key Takeaways

  • Total Dhanteras sales hit ₹1 lakh crore nationwide
  • Gold and silver sales reached ₹60,000 crore (up 25%)
  • Silver coin sales surged 35-40% as affordable alternative
  • Gold volume dipped 15% but transaction values rose 20-25%

Unprecedented Rush in Jewelry Markets

“The past two days have seen an unprecedented rush in jewellery markets,” said Pankaj Arora, national president of All India Jewellers and Goldsmith Federation. In Delhi alone, gold and silver sales crossed ₹10,000 crore.

Gold prices reached record highs of ₹1,32,000 per 10 grams, a 63% increase from last Dhanteras. Despite this, strategic buying continued with modest price corrections in major cities.

Silver Emerges as Value Investment

Silver prices climbed roughly 55% to ₹1,80,000 per kilogram, yet demand remained robust. “Despite high prices, sentiment remains upbeat, driven by strategic purchases. Silver coins and puja items surged 40 per cent year-on-year, marking silver’s rise as a smart, value-focused investment,” said GJC Chairman Rajesh Rokde.

The surge was particularly strong in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, where buyers opted for budget-friendly investments and ceremonial gifting.

Volume Dips, Value Rises

Gold buying volume decreased by 10-15% overall, but higher prices pushed transaction values up by 20-25%. “Dhanteras 2025 has seen a 10-15 per cent dip in overall volume compared to last year, but value is up sharply… we expect festive sales to cross ₹50,000 crore,” Rokde told PTI.

Overnight price corrections further stimulated gold purchases, with consumers buying coins and bullion in 1-50 gram denominations for investment, early weddings, and lightweight jewellery.

Beyond Precious Metals

Other categories also saw significant spending: utensils generated ₹15,000 crore, electronics and electrical goods reached ₹10,000 crore, while decorative items and religious materials accounted for ₹3,000 crore in sales.
