Arrow Electronics Removed from US Trade Blacklist After Review

Arrow Electronics Removed from US Trade Blacklist

Arrow Electronics Inc. has secured removal of its affiliates from the US Commerce Department’s entity list, preventing potential bans on American technology purchases for the Colorado-based chip distributor.

Key Developments

  • Arrow affiliates to be dropped from US sanctions list
  • Removal comes less than two weeks after initial listing
  • Company authorized to resume transactions immediately
  • One listed entity was unrelated ‘copycat’ firm

Resolution Timeline

The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) notified Arrow on Friday that its affiliates would be removed from the entity list. This reversal occurred just weeks after the initial listing, which alleged the companies helped Iranian proxies acquire American technology.

Arrow spokesperson John Hourigan clarified that one entity, Arrow Electronics Co., Ltd., was mistakenly included. “One of the units named in the original notice is actually not connected to the company and appears to be a copycat using a similar name,” Hourigan stated.

Interim Authorization

BIS has granted Arrow temporary permission to resume transactions with all affiliates ahead of formal Federal Register publication. According to a letter seen by Bloomberg News, the company may export, reexport, or transfer items up to 110% of volumes handled during the 120 days before listing.

This temporary authorization remains valid until February 14 or until the removal is officially published.

Background Context

The original listing connected Arrow affiliates to discoveries of US-origin electronic components in drone wreckage operated by Iranian proxies since 2017. Components were identified after analysis of debris recovered by Gulf and Middle Eastern nations.

A BIS spokesperson reaffirmed the agency’s “commitment to ensuring that export restrictions are appropriately targeted to protect national security.”

This marks a rare instance of a US-based company appearing on the entity list. Previous scrutiny occurred in 2020 when an Asian subsidiary faced similar allegations, which Arrow consistently denied.
