‘Thank God, I overcame this too’: Israeli PM Netanyahu after cancer diagnosis report

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday said he is in “excellent physical condition,” addressing recent reports about his health. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he revealed that he had experienced a “minor medical issue” related to his prostate, which has now been “completely treated.”

According to an official medical report released by the Prime Minister’s Office and cited by The Jerusalem Post, Netanyahu underwent successful treatment for early-stage prostate cancer. The report, dated April 20, 2026, also noted that the Israeli PM had earlier undergone surgery on December 29, 2024, for benign prostatic hyperplasia. The procedure was described as successful and complication-free.

Netanyahu, in the post on X, also said that he requested a two-month delay in the publication of his annual health report to avoid its release during a period of heightened conflict in the Middle East.

Netanyahu also reassured the public about his health. He wrote, “I ask to share with you three things: 1 – Thank God, I am healthy. 2 – I am in excellent physical condition. 3 – I had a minor medical issue with my prostate that was completely treated. Thank God, it’s behind me.”

He revealed that around a year and a half ago, he underwent successful surgery for benign prostatic enlargement and has since been under routine medical monitoring. Later, during a check-up, doctors identified a small spot, less than a centimetre, in his prostate.

According to Netanyahu, further examination confirmed that the spot was a “very early stage of a malignant tumor,” with no signs of spread or metastasis.

The Israeli leader said his doctors informed him that such cases are relatively common among men of his age. The doctors also presented him with two options: continued monitoring without immediate intervention, or undergoing treatment to remove the tumour.

Netanyahu chose to proceed with targeted treatment. He said the procedure successfully eliminated the tumour, leaving no trace behind. Subsequently, the spot had “disappeared completely.”

“Thank God, I overcame this too. I wish to thank the doctors and the wonderful medical teams at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. From you, citizens of Israel, I have only one request: Take care of your health. Get checked, and follow the doctors’ instructions,” Netanyahu added in his post.

The statement comes as the Israeli Prime Minister seemed to reassure citizens about his health.
