Kamala Harris hits out at Donald Trump over Iran strikes; ‘A dangerous and unnecessary gamble’

The United States and Israel carried out a joint military strike against Iran on February 28, targeting Iranian military bases and government-linked facilities. During the operation, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior officials were killed which escalated tensions in the region.

After the strikes, former Vice President Kamala Harris criticized President Donald Trump for the strikes while speaking in Madison, Wisconsin on March 1 during a book tour event for her book named “107 Days”. She called the attacks an unauthorized “war of choice” and accused Trump of dragging America into a conflict without congressional approval.

“In the last 48 hours Donald Trump has dragged America into a war that we don’t want,” Harris said.

She added that “I am opposed to a regime-change war in Iran,” calling the operation a “dangerous and unnecessary gamble” with American lives.

Harris argued that Trump had misled voters during his 2024 campaign when he promised to end wars rather than starting them. At that time, Trump claimed electing Harris would lead to major conflicts including World War III and framed himself as the “pro-peace” option.

Harris warns against escalation over Iran’s nukes

While she opposed the US-Israel military strikes she also acknowledged that Iran remains a serious threat, saying the country “must never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.” She emphasized that American troops deserve a commander-in-chief who approaches war decisions with “steadiness and discipline.”

Harris also challenged Trump’s claims about earlier strikes on Iran. In June 2025, Trump said Operation Midnight Hammer had “completely and totally obliterated” Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities. But a preliminary Defense Intelligence Agency report suggested the strikes only set back Iran’s program by three to six months while Pentagon estimates later put the disruption at about one to two years. The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed “severe damage” to equipment but noted that Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium likely remained intact or had been moved before the attacks.

Harris warned that Trump’s “chosen path of direct escalation is not the way to dismantle that threat” and cautioned that it could instead create “chaos throughout the Middle East.”

Harris’ political future: She ‘might’ run again

In a conversation with Sharon McMahon, Kamala Harris addressed questions about her political future saying that she “might” consider running for president again in 2028. Sharon asked her directly if she plans to seek the presidency and Harris replied, “I might.” She added that she has not made a final decision about a future campaign.
