OnePlus is merging with Realme, report says they are making new sub-product centre

Amid the rumours of OnePlus shutting down, a new report suggests that the brand has been merged with Realme. While the company has gone through some structural changes, such as its India CEO Robin Liu resigning and stepping down from his role effective March 31, 2026, OnePlus has maintained that its business is running as usual.

Update: OnePlus India has called the ongoing reports unverified speculation and said it is business as usual for the company. “OnePlus India continues to operate its business as usual, with all local operations on track. We urge the media to exercise restraint before amplifying unverified speculation,” OnePlus India told India Today Tech in a statement.

A post from Digital Chat Station on Weibo suggests that OnePlus and Realme have officially merged. It also said the two smartphone brands will combine their global and China operations under a new “sub-product center.”

Their marketing and services will also be unified. The post also mentioned a separate report which suggests that the merged teams will report to Pete Lau and focus more on reusing product lines.

India Today Tech has reached out to Realme for comments and is awaiting its response.

There were reports which said OnePlus might shut down its Europe operations as early as April. Since then, there have also been reports of job cuts, along with confirmation that the company is “evaluating” its future in the region, as per 9to5Google.

Meanwhile, former OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu earlier had dismissed reports suggesting that OnePlus was shutting down operations in several regions. He had described such claims as misinformation and reassured stakeholders that the company’s operations would continue.

Even when Liu announced his decision to step down, OnePlus, in a statement to India Today Tech, said Liu is moving on to pursue his personal interests and that OnePlus India operations will continue with a local strategy.

“We thank Robin for his contributions to OnePlus India. He moves on to pursue his personal passions, and we wish him the very best for his future endeavours. OnePlus India operations continue with local strategy and business continuity ensured,” OnePlus told India Today Tech at the time.

However, facts are suggesting otherwise. Late last month, OnePlus announced the expansion of its after-sales service infrastructure by 50 percent starting April 2026 in India. What is worth noting is that the additional capacity is not coming from newly opened OnePlus service centres. Instead, the company has leveraged the established service network of its parent company, Oppo.

Realme global presence

Realme does have a presence in Europe and other global markets, but not the United States, where OnePlus has operated for years. OnePlus hasn’t announced any new products for global markets in the past few months.
