Responsible, Trusted AI Usage Key To India’s Tech Transformation: Google India’s Preeti Lobana

Responsible and trusted artificial intelligence (AI) will be critical to India’s technology-led transformation, with every stakeholder responsible for ensuring safety and accountability, Google India’s Country Manager Preeti Lobana stated.

Key Takeaways

  • AI is foundational to India’s ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision
  • Trust and safety are prerequisites for widespread AI adoption
  • India’s diversity demonstrates how technology can scale to solve systemic issues
  • AI safety requires continuous, collective responsibility

AI as Foundation for Viksit Bharat

Referring to India’s push towards a developed nation vision, Lobana emphasized that AI would serve as a crucial foundation in this journey. She underlined that trust and safety are essential for widespread adoption.

“For AI to be really adopted and be in everyday use, there is a lot of onus on all of us as an ecosystem to make sure that it is safe and trusted,” she said at Google’s ‘Safe and Trusted AI’ event.

India’s Leadership in AI Revolution

Lobana added that AI represents a transformational technology that will unlock human potential, with India leading this revolution in real time. Citing the country’s diversity, she explained how India’s complexity showcases technology’s scalability.

“The complexity of India will show the world how technology can scale and drive impact, even to solve the toughest systemic issues… With precise, tailored, locally contextualised solutions for the many pockets (that exist in India),” she stated.

Building on Confidence and Collaboration

She emphasized that while AI promises a major leap forward, progress must be built on a foundation of confidence and collaboration.

“It can’t be just a leap of faith. We must take a confident step into solid ground,” Lobana said, noting that “safety is not a finish line” but “a continuous, collective responsibility”.
