Microsoft has now officially confirmed Project Helix, the codename for its next-generation Xbox console. The announcement about Project Helix was made by Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma in a post shared by social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) where she described Helix as the company’s bold new step in gaming hardware. Sharma said the console will “lead in performance” and allow players to “play your Xbox and PC games,” signaling a major shift toward a unified ecosystem.
“Great start to the morning with Team Xbox, where we talked about our commitment to the return of Xbox including Project Helix, the code name for our next generation console. Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games. Looking forward to chatting about this more with partners and studios at my first GDC next week!”, wrote Sharma on X.
Microsoft Project Helix: Features and design
Project Helix is designed as a hybrid gaming system which will be made to run both Xbox and PC games. Microsoft also showcased the new logo featuring a double helix forming an X, symbolising the console’s and its ambition to merge two gaming words. However, the company has not yet revealed any specifications of about the upcoming gaming console. Microsoft has also stressed on the fact that Helix will deliver industry-leading performance and broaden access to games across platforms.
Microsoft confirmation about Project Helix comes ahead of the Game Developers Conference (GDC) which is secluded to take place in San Francisco this year. Microsoft is expected to position its next-generation gaming console against the Sony’s upcoming PlayStation strategy which is mainly focused exclusives, while Microsoft pursues openness and cross-platform play.
