iPhone 18 Series Tipped for LTPO Displays, Under-Display Face ID

iPhone 18 Series to Get Major Display, Face ID Upgrades: Report

Apple’s entire iPhone 18 lineup, launching in 2025, is tipped to receive significant upgrades including LTPO displays for 120Hz ProMotion and under-display Face ID technology, according to a new leak from a reliable analyst.

Key Takeaways

  • All four iPhone 18 models may get LTPO displays with 120Hz ProMotion.
  • Under-display Face ID could debut, but might be exclusive to Pro models initially.
  • Standard models may keep a punch-hole cutout, creating a clearer design split between Pro and non-Pro iPhones.

Display Upgrade for All Models

Display analyst Ross Young, sharing details on X, claims the iPhone 18 series will see a major display technology shift. All models—standard, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max—are expected to feature LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) panels.

This enables ProMotion technology with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz, a feature currently reserved for iPhone Pro models. Standard models like the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus use LTPS displays limited to 60Hz.

Under-Display Face ID on the Horizon

Young also suggests Apple will finally implement under-display Face ID with the iPhone 18 series. This technology would embed the Face ID sensors beneath the screen, removing the need for a notch or Dynamic Island cutout.

However, this premium feature might be exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max at launch. The standard iPhone 18 and 18 Plus are expected to retain a single front camera punch-hole, similar to current models.

Creating a Clearer Pro Divide

This move suggests Apple is planning a more distinct visual differentiation between its Pro and standard iPhone lines. Pro models could achieve a “truly all-screen” look, while standard models would have a visible camera cutout.

A Note on the Source

Ross Young has a strong track record for accurate Apple display leaks. However, these details are early rumours for phones slated for a late 2025 launch, so Apple’s plans could still evolve.

The iPhone 18 series is expected to debut in the second half of 2025.
