Apple may soon let you stream Apple TV shows from iPhone to your car screen, here is how

iPhone users may soon get to stream and watch videos from Apple TV on CarPlay-supported screens. The functionality, which has been sometime in development, has been spotted within the documentation for Apple’s latest iOS 26.4 beta update, giving us a first look at how it might work and even some of its limitations.

The feature which is called “AirPlay Video in the car” was first confirmed by Apple at WWDC 2025. But it is yet to make this feature officially available to users. In iOS 26.4 beta, however, the first signs of availability have come up suggesting, Apple might soon roll it out to the public.

According to the documentation (first spotted by OneJailbreak), “AirPlay video in the car enables people to watch their favourite videos from iPhone right on their CarPlay display when they aren’t driving.”

Here, the integration of Apple TV is particularly noteworthy. CarPlay now includes a dedicated space, somewhat like an app itself, that would allow users to stream shows and films directly to their car display over AirPlay. It appears to be a step-up over simple mirroring. Users can resume what they were watching on their phone and start new episodes directly from the car’s display.

Due to safety and regulatory concerns, the AirPlay Video in the car will only be available when the car is parked, not when someone is driving. Also, not all cars will get this feature automatically. Car manufacturers must update their infotainment systems to support CarPlay and AirPlay video integration.

The developer documentation indicates Apple is building a foundation for broader in-car entertainment through CarPlay, and that it is likely to arrive with iOS 26.4.

According to MacRumors, this beta version of iOS 26.4 will also officially allow voice-based conversational apps in Apple CarPlay. However, this support is expected tp come with limited control, as Apple might not allow third-party AI apps to be activated via a wake word in CarPlay like “Hey Siri.” Users might have to manually open the app before interacting with the chatbot.
