Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick takes a savage swipe at fans who predicted LeBron James’ retirement

Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick didn’t hold back when asked about the frenzy surrounding LeBron James’ cryptic “Second Decision” post. As speculation spread online that the NBA icon might announce his retirement, Redick’s blunt response cut through the noise. The Los Angeles Lakers head coach called the people “idiots” who believed that James would announce retirement. Redick’s response sparked laughter in the room, perfectly capturing his disbelief at how far the rumors had gone.

JJ Redick calls retirement speculation around LeBron James “idiotic”

LeBron James, 40, had teased fans with a short video that mirrored his infamous 2010 “The Decision” special — the moment he revealed his move from Cleveland to Miami. The teaser, labeled “The Second Decision”, sent social media into chaos.

Some fans braced for a retirement announcement, while others joked that he might be leaving the Lakers. But when the full reveal dropped, it turned out to be a new partnership between James and Hennessy.

The stunt drew a mix of laughter and frustration from fans, especially since Lakers ticket prices reportedly spiked after the post. Yet, JJ Redick made it clear he wasn’t buying into the hysteria. “You guys are idiots,” Redick said.

“We all knew it was an ad, right? Nobody was freaking out,” he added, emphasizing that people overreacted to something obviously promotional.

Lakers forward Rui Hachimura and guard Austin Reaves also weighed in, admitting the teaser had caught them off guard. “He loves to do that type of stuff,” Hachimura said. Reaves, on the other hand, confessed, “I got a couple calls, like, ‘What is this?’”

LeBron James on staying focused despite the noise

Despite the social media chaos, LeBron James remains locked in as he prepares for his 23rd NBA season.

This will be a record-breaking milestone that makes him the league’s oldest active player.

At Lakers Media Day, he made it clear he’s not ready to slow down. “I’m excited about the opportunity to be able to play the game that I love for another season,” he said. “I don’t know when the end is. I know it’s a lot sooner than later.”

James’ legendary career continues to evolve as he balances family, business, and basketball. He’s already achieved what no other player has — playing alongside his son, Bronny James, in Los Angeles. And while talk of retirement always lingers around a player of his stature, James is quite focused on delivering standout performance in the upcoming season.
