After Pakistan hundred, will Harry Brook continue at No.3? England captain reacts

After an innings that got his team into the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026, Harry Brook was asked a straightforward question. Will the England skipper continue playing at No.3? It was a masterstroke from England and Brook to promote himself to No.3 during the highly intense chase against Pakistan in Kandy on Tuesday, February 24.

ENG vs PAK T20 WORLD CUP 2026: HIGHLIGHTS | SCORECARD

Brook batted at No.5 throughout the T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, where he didn’t achieve a lot of success before everything changed during the game against Pakistan. Scoring a 50-ball hundred on the grand stage, Brook ensured his team crossed the finish line at the end by two wickets and got to the final four of the T20 World Cup.

The England skipper, however, remained coy on his chances of playing at spot, leaving it all to coach Brendon McCullum to make a decision on the matter. Brook credited McCullum for the masterstroke right after the game.

“I don’t know. That’s something for me and Baz to chat about. The longer I bat, the better it is for me. It’s a lot easier facing their best bowlers through the middle period when you’re already set,” said Brook.

WHY DID BROOK MOVE TO NO.3?

Brook has enjoyed a great time playing against Pakistan in all formats of the game. In T20Is, the England skipper has 376 runs in 11 matches with an average of 62.66 and a strike-rate of 159.32. Brook attributed his record against Pakistan as the main reason to move up the order and put pressure on them.

“Well, I think partly because of my past and history against Pakistan, but like I said, to try and maximise the power play and put them under pressure early on. I know we were losing wickets, but my job was still to try to go out there and put them under pressure throughout,” said Brook.

When asked to rate his innings, Brook said that this knock was certainly high up on the list of his best white-ball knocks.

“I’ve been asked that about three times already. I actually think I preferred the Sri Lanka ODI to be honest. But no, that’s certainly up there in the context of the game and the situation that we found ourselves,” said Brook.

England will now face New Zealand in their final Group 8 game on Friday, February 27.
