Sunny Deol’s Gabru set for May release following Border 2 success. Check date here

After the roaring success of Border 2, Sunny Deol is excited about his upcoming film Gabru. The movie is set to release in cinemas across India on May 8, 2026. Gabru is directed by Shashank Udapurkar and produced by Vishal Rana and Om Chhangani. The film is expected to reflect significant themes in Deol’s career, generating anticipation among fans and industry observers alike.

As per ANI, Gabru stars Simran and Prit Kamani in pivotal roles alongside Deol. The film will be distributed nationwide by PVR INOX Pictures, ensuring a wide theatrical release. The soundtrack features compositions by Mithoon, with lyrics contributed by Sayeed Quadri, Satinder Sartaj, and Anurag Saikya.

In a recent interview with the news agency, Sunny Deol provided insight into the personal importance of the project. “Sunny described ‘Gabru’ as one of the closest films to his heart.”

Producers said that Gabru explores “themes of courage, identity, and resilience; elements that have always defined his cinematic journey.” These ideas have been central to many of Deol’s most popular works and are expected to resonate with his audience once again.

At a press conference celebrating Border 2’s success, Deol addressed his return to prominence and acknowledged the support of his fan base. Sunny expressed gratitude to his fans for their love and continued support. He also reflected on his renewed popularity, stating, “Itne saal pata nahi kahan chupa hua tha (I don’t know where I was hiding all these years.) It’s really sweet. I just want to say this to everyone — work hard, love your profession, don’t get disheartened, and time is something you never know when it will come and when it will go, but you should be ready for it.)”

Sunny Deol’s career has experienced renewed attention with the success of Border 2, which was released in theatres on January 23. The film draws inspiration from the 1971 India-Pakistan War, offering a portrayal of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force working together. It features performances by Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, and Diljit Dosanjh.
