Shah Rukh Khan works non-stop despite spine issue, says Govind Namdev

Veteran actor Govind Namdev has revealed that Shah Rukh Khan continues to work relentlessly despite grappling with serious health issues. Reflecting on their time together, Namdev said the superstar’s discipline left a lasting impression on everyone around him.

Speaking to Lallantop, Namdev recalled how Khan never allowed physical pain to interfere with his professionalism. “Physical bahut zyada problem hai, reedh ki haddi ki problem hai, kaafi problem hai, dekh kar hame bhi sikhaaya,” (There are a lot of physical problems, spinal problems, a lot of problems, after seeing them he taught us this too.), he said, adding that despite severe back and spine issues, Khan never let it show on set.

What health issues was he referring to?

Namdev pointed specifically to Shah Rukh Khan’s ongoing back and spinal problems. According to him, the actor has endured considerable physical discomfort over the years. Yet, rather than drawing attention to it, Khan reportedly chose to carry on as usual — rehearsing, performing and interacting with the crew without complaint.

When did they work together?

The two actors collaborated on the 2000 film Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani. Namdev suggested that even back then, Khan’s resilience was evident. He described the atmosphere on set as focused and motivating, crediting much of that energy to Khan’s unwavering commitment.

How did it affect the team?

According to Namdev, watching Khan push through discomfort became a lesson in professionalism. He implied that the actor’s attitude encouraged others to deliver their best. When the lead star refuses to slow down, excuses quietly disappear.

Crew members, he added, drew inspiration from Khan’s positive demeanour, which helped foster camaraderie and mutual respect during production.

What’s next for Shah Rukh Khan?

The revelation comes as Khan prepares for his upcoming film King, directed by Siddharth Anand. The project, backed by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures, also stars Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone and Abhishek Bachchan, and is slated for release on December 24, 2026.

If Namdev’s words are anything to go by, the audience can expect the same intensity — aches and all.
